Sandra gave us a wonderful oral and pictorial history of her time in Canada.

Her presentation alternated between showing PowerPoint pictures and telling stories of her experience.

Sandra began with a number of slides starting with her introduction to Dryden such as tubing on Thunder Lake.

With her first host family, Cindy Palermo, she made a number of trips to Thunder Bay seeing the sights there such as the Terry Fox monument.

She also shared how she was now in a household with 2 host brothers and 2 host sisters and experience that was new to her.

The differences between school here and in Slovakia were described. In Slovakia she would take 11classes all year while here it was 4 classes per semester. In Slovakia there are no exams except for the final year. The focus is on tests and projects done throughout the year.

Sandra showed pictures of exchange student get together of 16 persons in Neepawa in September, Minnedosa for a Hallowe’en Party and another in Melfort.

There were also pictures of Sandra attending high school dances, which are not held in Slovakia as well s pictures of Christmas spent here with her host family. Here we eat turkey, there they eat fish.

In January, Sandra moved to Kim and Gary Fuerst residence.

Winter highlights included seeing how trapping was done, experiencing a dog sledding trip and staying overnight in a Quinzhee.

In April Hraskova went to Russell, Saskatchewan for the orientation of outgoing students. She also moved to her last host family, the Stuarts.

May found her at the District Conference doing the Exchange student presentation and playing a major role in their presentation, such as designing the shirts the students wore.

After District Conference Sandra and the other exchange students headed west for their Western Adventure. A highlight was seeing the Rocky Mountains and the lakes both of which quite impressed her.

Sandra will be heading home on July 13th after one more exchange student get together in Flin Flon , MB and the Grad dance in Dryden
