Chuck Schmitt, Recruitment and Fundraising Coordinator for the DRHC and Dr. Adam Moir were on hand to receive a cheque for $30,000 for the hospital’s foundation.

(L-R) President Brian Braid, Chuck Schmitt, Dr. Adam Moir, Rtn. Rena Madden Chair, DRCF

Before receiving the donation Schmitt provided us a brief update on the needs and status of the hospital. Schmitt revealed that it had just completed an accreditations visit and only 5 procedures out of 2000 were flagged by the accreditors.

He also indicated that the past few years, the government has only been adding about 1% to the hospital’s budget while costs average more than this every year. Therefore, the amount that they use to have available for capital purchases from depreciation has been reduced as some of this has to be used to prevent a deficit.

The hospital therefore looks to the public and service clubs like Rotary to assist with capital purchases.

Schmitt thanked Rotary for the great supporters they have been in the past and for the donation of $30,000 being given to day.

Dr Adam Moir, an ultrasound specialist, shared two cases where the use of ultrasound may have saved two lives and saved monies on a medivac flight.
