Stefanie Cran and Jessica Symington spoke to Dryden Rotarians about the Local Food Security Initiative.

They asked what were we doing to address Dryden's Food Security Issues?

They talked of establishing a Locavore Box which is a $20 bi-weekly box containing nutritional, seasonally fresh local produce . The boxes will also contain newsletters, each covering a variety of topics, including  how to wash, cut and prepare food, recipes featuring the produce in the box, bios of local vendors, updates on what will be going on at the farmers market, and a feedback form.

They have chosen 30 random participants , local producers & volunteers to take part in this initiative.

Cran and Symington will also be promoting Eat Local Day on July 25 which is a community challenge wherein everyone will be urged to use local ingredients, promote local food sources and encourage sharing meals together.

They are also exploring how a producer-consumer co-op can  - strengthen the local agricultural sector, and improve local food security.

A few objectives are to increase local production, strengthen producer-consumer relationship, have a "home-base" for the Farmer's Market, potential to expand Agri-business opportunities and more.
