Past President Brian Braid attended the 5550 District Rotary Conference in Nipawin, a 12 hour ride from Dryden. Keynote speakers were Mel Duncan and Ann Frisch who talked about a “non violent peaceforce” hoping to transform the world’s response to conflict. 

 
Headquartered in Belgium, Nonviolent Peaceforce “works to promote and implement unarmed civilian protection as a tool for reducing violence and protecting civilians in situations of violent conflict.
 
Another speaker was Eduardo Costa, a Rotarian peacefellow originally from Brazil. Eduardo talked about how Rotary helped him to succeed after growing up in a small town on the Amazon River. He is currently working on a Masters Degree in Economics at the University of Manitoba. He maintains that “Rotarians are not gate keepers, they are door openers.”
 

Cathy McCall talked about Life Donor USA, an organization that promotes organ donation, followed by the Youth Exchange presentation put on by Rotary Youth exchange students featuring Dryden’s pride and joy, Alba Posas Solandes.  Also attending from Dryden was President Elect Carl Eisner and District Trainer Joanne Misner.
