Dryden Mission

Jim Shearer, Pastor at the Dryden Full Gospel Church applies some hard work and plenty of enthusiasm for his dream, the “Dryden Mission”.  Located at the corner of Duke Street and Van Horne Avenue, the donated building has essentially become a “large garage sale” site with all items donated.

Business is booming and proceeds from sales are used in many ways to help people in immediate need. But Jim Shearer sees this as a golden opportunity to teach people responsibility and restore confidence in themselves. Whether it’s helping people with bills, travel to funerals or needs for appliances, clothing, his heart tells him that people will respond when given a second chance.

A key to its success, according to Shearer, is the experience and knowledge of his cherished volunteer mission workers.

His vision for the building includes a teaching cafe where people looking for a new start can learn to be cooks and waiters. The old garage bays on the north side of the building could be used to teach carpentry or train people to repair motor vehicles and appliances. His hope is to involve other learning agencies and that much of the training could be done by volunteers, mainly those over 55 that have talents to share. The upstairs could become a much needed shelter for homeless men.

Jim Shearer’s dream is to transform the power in people’s generosity into care and support for people trying to turn their lives around.
