An introduction to Dryden Rotary’s 2010-2011 Exchange Student Maela Cataldi

Maela Cataldi | On August 21st, 2010 Rtn Peter Marshall of The Rotary Club of Dryden along with his wife and son met the club’s 2010 – 2011 Rotary Exchange student Maela Cataldi, at the Winnipeg, Manitoba airport. |
Cataldi had just arrived from her home town of Chambéry in France’s Savoie Department of the Rhone-Alps Region via Paris’s Oley airport. Maela lives in the heart of Chambéry at the famous Fontaine des éléphants [In this Google street view you will be looking directly at the pink four story building which is Maela’s mother’s home. Maela is 16 years old and while
on exchange is attending Grade 12 at Dryden High School. She has a sister, and
a pet dog.
While in Dryden, Cataldi
will be staying with the host families of Peter and Elaine Marshall
(August-December), Peter and Beth Keen ( January – April 2011) and Mardi and
Fred Plomp (May- July).
Maela’s host club is Chambéry Challes les Eaux .
While on exchange Cataldi
said, “I hope to discover new
people, new values, a new way of life and new culture.” To that end on the
September 17, 18, 19th weekend Maela and Rtn. Janet Pilozow
travelled to Neepawa, Maniboba for the District’s orientation for all
the youth exchange students. Maela reported
she had, “Made a number of new friends and gone bowling and done a skit
to represent her country.”She also said in a report to the club at the Sept. 22nd
meeting as of that date she had “celebrated her one month anniversary in Canada.”
