Vicki Kurz,  Economic Development Manager for the Dryden Development Corporation provided us with an overview of the City of Dryden Sustainable Waterfront Development Plan

The City of Dryden has an opportunity to develop a significant parcel of waterfront property on the shores of Wabigoon Lake.
A total of over 38 acres has been identified for consideration. This parcel includes private lands, protected wetlands, undeveloped municipal lands and surplus Crown lands.

The motivations for this project are many: unrealized opportunity, housing demands, changing demographics, economic dominance of a single industry, tourism development, community amenity & quality of life, and confronting the issues of "sustainable community".

The purpose of this project is to provide clear and relevant direction to the Dryden
Development Corporation as to the ingredients necessary to achieve a viable and
sustainable waterfront development. The City of Dryden Framework Plan (2008)
together with the Dryden Tourism Market Analysis and Tourism Strategic Plan
(2009), are intended to provide the starting point for this assessment. The project
will consider all of the factors that will contribute to this development, including
community objectives, design and engineering criteria, financial criteria and
partnership opportunities."

Vicki indicated that the Laura Howe Marsh is a part of the development but that it
is dying and some work will have to be done to revive it. She is also hoping to get
Rotarians to provide some labour to improve the trails this fall. In addition , should
Rotary see fit to donate some monies to the development , that would be much
appreciated.
