This year's Rotary Foundation chair, John Borst gave us at our November 24th luncheon some background on The Rotary Foundation (TRF) of Rotary International with a special focus on introducing new ways of making donations.

The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians

to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. The Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.

The Rotary Foundation (Canada) is a Canadian federally chartered corporation and Canadian registered charity supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of The Rotary Foundation who share its vision of a better world.

The Rotary Foundation was created in 1917 by Rotary International's sixth president, Arch C. Klumph, as an endowment fund for Rotary "to do good in the world."

Donors may direct their gifts to three main funds: the Annual Programs Fund, which supports the Foundation’s humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs worldwide; the Permanent Fund, which provides an endowment; and the PolioPlus Fund.

Borst described how, besides providing lump sum cheques using the "Global Contribution Form" you could now register to make direct deposits either through your bank or from a credit card. The minimum monthly transfer at a bank is $10.00 while using a credit card, it is $25.00. He also described how you could make contributions on-line at TRF(Canada) in amounts of $100, $250, $500. $750 or $1000 dollars.

Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) aims to engage every Rotarian in the life-changing
programs of our Rotary Foundation. The purpose of this initiative is:
  • Encourage every Rotarian to participate in a Foundation program every year
  • Encourage every Rotarian to personally contribute to the Foundation’s Annual Programs Fund every year

Borst concluded his talk by having President Keen draw for the awarding of the latest Paul Harris Fellow to the second group of five.  This year’s recipient from Group Two is Rtn Rita Latoureau.
