Penny
Bradley, coordinator of services for Patricia Region Senior Services Inc. (PRSSI)
gave us a brief overview of the services offered to seniors on a fee for
service basis.
PRSSI
provides supportive housing through the building at 35 Van Horne Ave known as Patricia
Gardens. Patricia Gardens provides seniors with an independent apartment
setting.
In
addition, it coordinates the Meals on Wheels, a 7 day a week supper program,
that Rotary is involved in. Bradley thanked Rotary for its involvement over the
past number of years.
Frozen meals from M & M Meats can also be supplied for heating in the microwave.
Transportation assistance is provided to seniors for medical appointments, shopping and social
events.
“Home Help” is available to seniors who require such items as washing of walls, meal
preparation, or grocery shopping. Although
presently not active, as the person providing the service has left, PRSSI also offers
yard maintenance and snow shovelling for seniors.
“Lifeline”,
is a program that has seniors wearing a pendant around their wrist or neck
which allows them to summon assistance when they are not able to access a phone.
“Friendly visiting” matches a volunteer and a client to meet regularly on a one on one
basis.
