Dryden High School student, Morgan Kruger, spent her 2019-20 school year in Hualien City, Taiwan. Last Wednesday she shared her experience with her sponsoring club The Rotary Club of Dryden.
Hualien City is located on the east coast of Taiwan facing the Pacific Ocean. It is the 9th largest city in the country with a metropolitan population of 350,468.

Morgan introduced us to her “host parents” using a slide show presentation. Her first host parents, the Zangs spoke good English so made the transition to traditional Chinese easier.

Students and school were a large part of Morgan’s presentation. Morgan also experienced COVID-19 in February while in school and how each day her temperature was taken. Before she left the school, installed cameras which took a student's temperature as they came through the door.

Some interesting facts and experiences she shared with the club were:
  • Taiwan has the highest concentration of convenience stores
  • Her visits to local night markets - where she tried pig’s blood and rice on a stick - and stinky tofu (fried and covered with spices/sau

She also took part in Rotary Club events while there.
