Leah Gardner, Curator of the Dryden Museum recently spoke to Rotarians about the museum’s past twenty-five years along with the challenges and opportunities she sees for the future.

Dryden’s first museum began in 1964 located in what is now known as the Dryden Tourist Bureau. By 1979, after collecting more than 3,000 artifacts, the museum needed more space and by 1987 everything was moved into former Hambleton House on King Street.

Today the Dryden Museum holds over 14,000 artifacts with some help from an offsite storage facility at the Barclay Fire Hall. In addition to hosting may travelling exhibitions the museum often showcases local artists. Next year Leah hopes to begin tackling the mammoth job of digitizing all 14,000 artifacts in the collection. The following year would see a new verandah across the front of the building which will add more storage space and return the building to its original profile.
